Preserving The Wellness Of Corporate Leaders
Often our discussions around wellness focus on the strategies company leaders can use to assist their employees. Leaders are frequently forgotten in this equation of corporate wellness. But in the quest to achieve a strong, surviving and flourishing company, its’ leadership team must also be assisted in remaining physically and mentally healthy.
Flexible Benefit Plans
Historically, employee benefit plans have been provided on a one-size-fits all basis, designed to meet the perceived needs of the assumed ‘typical employee and family.’ The diversity of employee needs and the advent of technology have contributed to a growing trend towards more flexible benefit arrangements. According to Green Shield Canada, flexible benefit plans continue to grow in popularity and offer employees the opportunity to select those benefits they need, while helping the employer manage benefit plan costs.
Corporate Wellness A Business Case
The impact of stress on physical and psychological well-being and its negative effect on company productivity and morale is soundly documented. More and more Canadians are having difficulty keeping their mind on their work. Employees are preoccupied with personal problems and focusing less on their jobs. Without assistance and coping strategies, these potentially productive workers will end up costing their company money by having accidents, using up their sick benefits, and getting into workplace conflicts. Employee stress lowers work quality and company productivity. Unmanaged stress will negatively affect the bottom line.
Comprehensive Wellness And Vacation Benefits
Holidays are essential to healthy workers, yet three in ten put holiday on standby. The 6th annual Expedia.ca and Ipsos Reid survey reports that 29% of employed Canadians are not taking all of their yearly-allotted vacation days. This figure is up from the 21% found in 2007 and if your company has similar rates to the national average, your company could be in trouble.
Comprehensive Workplace Wellness And EAP
Employee assistance professionals can help take wellness programs to the next level by identifying employee needs, getting top-level buy-in, and assisting employees and supervisors in seeing a link between the program and their health and work. Industries rely on healthy workers to keep themselves competitive, and a comprehensive health and wellness program has emerged as a necessity in business strategy planning. But pulling together all of the components that comprise a successful wellness program can be a challenge.
Building A Well Workplace
More than 64% of Canadian business have some form of health promotion program – the most popular being staff appreciation events, first aid and CPR courses, subsidies for external programs, flexible work programs and benefits, time-off in lieu of overtime pay, EAP, flu shots, time management training, and work station assessment.
What Is Burnout
Burnout is a state of fatigue while feeling frustrated, overworked, and unappreciated. It occurs when a person persists with a way of life that doesn’t meet their expectations or exerts too many demands on their energy.
Water And Mental Health
Water is vital to life and it is often overlooked as a stress reliever. Every cell and every system in the body is dependent on water for healthy functioning.
Vanquishing Vacation Stress
Vacations are to be relaxing and rejuvenating, but having the expectation that this one will be your 'best vacation ever' can lead to further stress.
Too Many Hats Not Enough Heads
We rush through traffic to get to work and we rush back again to pick up the children to get to the next sporting event or lesson. We get frustrated. We forget how to talk to each other. Most of us have felt that our lives are too complicated at one time or another. Previous trends have been to achieve more, get more and do more. One of the ways to uncomplicate our lives is through a contrary movement called Simplification. It can be hard to do, but the rewards can be great.
Holiday Stress - Tisn't The Season To Be Stressed Out
Feeling a little stressed during the holiday season? Like many we tend to let our worry, expectations, poor planning, and over-indulgence get in the way of truly enjoying the holidays.
Tips For Handling A Difficult Leader
It’s the end of the day and you’re exhausted, frustrated and wondering why you put up with these difficult people. Understanding why some people become more difficult or negative, and when they are more likely to act that way, can prevent you from obsessing about that one difficult person to the exclusion of all the others who were quite pleasant and appreciated your work. By reflecting on your role in these difficult interactions, you will be in a better position to learn strategies to head off and/or counteract the stressful effects of these encounters with difficult people
Stress Smart Shift Work
Though shift work may be ‘good’ for business, it can take a huge toll on the workers and their families. If not handled properly, it can in fact cause the company more than they may have bargained or budgeted for through accidents, absenteeism and lowered productivity.
